Father’s Day is almost here, and I think it’s so important to thank all of the dads, stepdads, and grandpas out there who do so much for their families and little ones.

This day brings to mind many memories for all of us I’m sure – summertime with family, backyard barbecues, making cards for Dad, picking out a special gift, enjoying time together.

Sometimes when we were little, my dad would wake us up for school in kind of a unique way… He’d peek in the bedroom door and whistle the trumpet part from ‘Reveille’ that he had heard as a young soldier stationed at a field hospital in the Normandy region of France. Do-do-do-do-do. It’s time to get up… It’s time to get up…

When I recorded songs for Rory’s Place on TLC, one of the first songs that came to mind to include on our show was “Oh How I Hate to Get Up In the Morning.” It starts with that bugle reveille and I think of my sweet dad each time I hear it.

Check out the song, from my album of the same title.
